The Project

The Air Canada Centre is a multi-purpose indoor sporting arena with a 15-storey office tower, located in Downtown Toronto, Ontario. The arena has a seating capacity of 19,800. Facilities include private suites, theatre suites, VIP area, team dressing rooms and training facilities.

Mechanical systems were designed to support multiple uses including NHL Hockey, NBA Basketball, NLL Lacrosse, Concerts and Major exhibitions.

MECHANICAL DESIGN FEATURES

  • Comprehensive review of NHL and NBA facilities to verify needs and identify successful approaches
  • Environmental studies were completed to necessitate major changes to the design
  • The mechanical system design utilized a combination of outdoor air free cooling and deep lake water cooling during the hockey season, making the ACC one of the most sustainable in North America
